Henderson three leads Chicks to win; Minco tops Alex

Freshman Brock Henderson's three pointer beat the buzzer in Elgin Tuesday night and gave the Chickasha boys a 56-53 win.

Henderson hit the game winner after the Fightin' Chicks took timeout to draw up a play, but head coach Nathan Pennypacker said it came as a bit of an accident.

"As crazy as it sounds, they didn't do it exactly right," Pennypacker said. "He ran to the block, but I guess he didn't feel totally comfortable there. So, he just took a few more steps."

The win comes after Chickasha went through a rough time at the Anadarko tournament. This is the second time this season the Fightin' Chicks have played Elgin, and that time Henderson pulled down a double-double.

"Overall, we did alright," Pennypacker said, noting he would have liked to see his team play better defensively. "It was good for them. We needed that win."

Pennypacker was pleased with the play of forward Levi Kel, who pulled down a season-high 17 points and 10 rebounds against Elgin. Cole Young hauled in 15 rebounds.

A fourth quarter surge from Elgin took them to a 59-42 win over Chickasha girls on Tuesday.

The Lady Eagles scored 26 points in the fourth quarter after Chickasha had tied the game up exiting the third. Sophomore Dominique Golightly led the Lady Chicks with 17 points, but fouled out in the fourth quarter, which hampered the comeback effort.

"We just didn't manage the game in the fourth quarter," head coach Christy Edelen said.

The last time these two teams met in Chickasha, Elgin's Jentry Holt proved difficult to handle. This time around the Lady Chicks managed to hold her to just five field goals, but her time at the free throw line took her to 23 points.
