Two sides of an energy lobbyist coin

CHICKASHA —

I'm not going to try and shove any sort of statistic or indication for or against climate change down your throat.

Because while I lean toward the belief that man can have a significant impact on the environment and more than 90 percent of climate scientists say that is happening, at the end of the day we don't really know. Also, the way to debunk the latest climate change deniers' argument doesn't need any scientific verification; just common sense.

In light of the more recent climate change findings, it seems those who have an interest in denying that such information is accurate are instead attacking where that information is coming from. It is a fact that spending from environmental lobbyist groups and green energy lobbyists has gone up over the past few years.

So, those influenced by the Koch bothers and their apparent hatred for anything green point to this as a way of determining inaccuracy. They say the only reason so many climate reports are coming out and the Obama administration is acting on climate change is because so much environmentalist and green energy money has been poured into the lobbying system.

I'm not sure who the pot or the kettle is in this instance, but they're of the same general hue and climate deniers are simply pointing that out.

Lest we forget, big energy money (i.e., oil, natural gas, fossil fuels) has had the ear of lawmakers for decades. Many times have citizens groaned at this well-known fact as a symbol of how corporations are the true beneficiaries in general elections.

Even in our own state, Gov. Mary Fallin signed a bill that taxes people for putting solar panels on their homes. You think that didn't come with applause from the natural gas energy gallery?
