Police agencies work together to arrest armed man locked in house

RUSH SPRINGS —

A man was arrested Wednesday afternoon after he barricaded himself inside his Rush Springs' home.

Rush Springs Police Chief Paul Markham arrived at Jason Brown's residence to serve a felony warrant.

"Upon arriving at the residence, Chief Markham spotted Brown and positively identified him," Grady County Sheriff's Office Public Information Officer Lisa Hatchett said. "When Brown saw the police car, he ran into the house, locking the door and refused to come out."

Markham said he was notified by Brown's father that there were guns inside the house. Markham called for backup resulting in the presence of officers from Ninnekah, Alex and deputies from the GCSO.

"Brown’s father then made contact with his son, advising him to give up," Hatchett said. "Brown informed his father he wasn’t leaving the house and to tell law enforcement he wasn’t in the house. Mr. Brown (Jason's father) informed his son that law enforcement knew he was there, he needed to give himself up."

The GCSO Special Response Team was deployed following Brown's conversation with his father.

"After the last phone call, a commotion was heard in the back of the house, an officer was yelling, 'Get on the ground, get on the ground,'" Hatchett said. "A taser was used on Jason Brown to get him in compliance, he was placed under arrest and the house was cleared."

A loaded 22 caliber pistol and a rifle were located in the house.

"(GCSO) Sheriff Jim Weir and Chief Paul Markham both stated how pleased they are with the working relationship law enforcement agencies in Grady County have now," Hatchett said.

Brown was transported to the Grady County Jail and booked in on a felony warrant, resisting arrest and obstruction.
