Short chase ends with Haz-Mat call for smoke

CHICKASHA —

Police were led on a short car and foot chase early yesterday morning following a routine traffic stop.

Chickasha Major Elip Moore said officers followed a suspect into a thick wooded area on S. 29th Street, where he was able to lose the police.

"We are following up on this investigation," said Moore. "The subject did get away, but we found an ID in the car. We are following up on a few leads and expect this one to end with an arrest."

Following the chase, officers noticed "a smoke like substance" coming from a large tank in the bed of the suspect's truck. A Haz-Mat crew was called in to investigate the scene, but the smoke emitter turned out to be an oxygen tank, according to Moore.
