The Chickasha Board of Education discussed the search for superintendent

— In the search to find a superintendent to replace Superintendent Jim Glaze, the Chickasha Board of Education has amended its initial procedure.

After discussing the procedure with attorneys, the board learned that due to confidentiality issues, those outside the Chickasha Board of Education cannot be involved in reviewing the resumes of superintendent applicants, Julie Badgett-Sinn, Chickasha Board of Education President, said.

Julie Hibbard, who took an oath for Chickasha Board of Education Seat 4 earlier in the evening, noted a correction to Item 8 in a previous meeting.

The item stated that "a committee compiled of one representative from each school association: CASE (support), CUTA (teachers) and COPA (administrators) and two community members chosen by each board member will assist in reviewing resumes and interviewing."

Hibbard stated that it should read, "After discussion, the board agreed that a committee coupled of one representative from each school association (support, teachers and administrators) and two community members chosen by each board member will form a committee to set up the criteria that will then be given to the board to use when reviewing the applications."

Badgett-Sinn said there has been "a tremendous amount of rumors" and regarding the hiring process.

"We are all on the same page," Badgett-Sinn said. "The bottom line is we want the process to be as fair as possible."

The board passed a motion to approve setting a meeting for the criteria committee for the superintendent position to meet next Thursday, April 24, 2014 at 6:30 p.m. in the boardroom of the Chickasha Public Schools Administration building.

During the meeting, the Chickasha Board of Education will hear reports from the criteria committee and then the board will move into executive session to begin the process of reviewing resumes based on criteria.

Superintendent Jim Glaze resigned earlier this year due to cancer. Interim Superintendent Pete Bush gave a report at the end of the meeting that Glaze is at home and doing well. Glaze was able to come into the office for a few days and everyone was happy to see him, Bush said.

In other business, Shelia Wilson, Lincoln Elementary Principal gave her official resignation. The board expressed their thanks to Wilson for her service and said they were sorry to lose her.

On Tuesday, May 6, a Teacher's Appreciation Reception will take place at 3:30 p.m. at the Activity Center in the Chickasha High School.
