CHICKASHA — It was an easy trip into the semifinals of the Chickasha Classic tournament for Yukon on Thursday as they whitewashed Duncan 74-20.
Yukon’s three quarters-court press from the start sped up the tempo and caught Duncan off guard. Audrey Hayes took advantage of a steal for a second breakaway layup for the Millers to put them up 7-0 early. Even when they didn’t get the steal, the press and an aggressive defense forced Duncan into awkward passes and difficult shooting situations.
Hayes finished with a game high 16 points.
It was down to the Demons senior, Rainy Sanford, to lead the way for Duncan. She had Duncan’s highest amount of points with five, but it was a scrap to get them. Shortly into the second quarter, Duncan was in the bonus and had plenty of trips to the free throw line. It was the only consolation. If they could get the ball down low, the duo of Chelsea and Maci Exum were there to block the shot. Yukon led 43-13 by the half.
Things got worse for Duncan in the third. Despite getting a few open shots from three point range, they failed to capitalize on anything while Yukon kept on trucking. They put in another 18 points, this time with junior Sarah Wilson leading the way. She finished the game with 12 points.
Yukon plays Cache in a semifinal tomorrow at 4 p.m. Duncan enters the consolation bracket against Moore at 2 p.m.
