Wedded on Oct. 16, 2010

Mariko Jessica McDonagh and John Allen Meier were married October 16, 2010 at Memorial Church on the campus of Stanford University. The bride and groom met at Stanford, from which they both graduated.  Rev. C. George Fitzgerald presided over the ceremony.

The bride is the daughter of Miyuki and Michael McDonagh of Old Greenwich,  Conn., and the groom is the son of Katherine Meier and the grandson of Harold and Peggy McCreery of Chickasha, Okla.. The bride wore a floor-length silk Pronovias bridal gown with a cathedral length train.

The Maid and Matron of Honor, Claire Schmidt and Malinda Sandman with Bridesmaids, Barbara McDonagh (sister of the Bride), Kosha Shah, Michael Anne Kyle and Allison Rose wore matching knee length red strapless dresses carrying fresh fall floral bouquets.  The Best Men, Dr. Steve Meier (brother of the groom) and Robert Meyer with Groomsmen Jeremy Barton, Christopher Kovalchick, Pablo Abad-Manterola and David Valenzuela wore traditional black tuxedos.

The traditional ceremony preceded a reception at the Asian Art Museum in San Francisco, Calif.  Passed hors d’oeuvres and champagne were served prior to the bride and groom’s arrival in the loggia of the museum. A four course plated dinner was served in the Asian Art Museum’s Samsung Hall with traditional white wedding cake and fresh strawberries for dessert.  After dinner the couple delighted guests with a samba to “Say Hey” by Michael Franti.

The couple honeymooned in Playa Mujeres, Mexico.

They have made their home in Pasadena, California where Mrs. Meier is a Project Manager in the Strategic Projects Group at Southern California Edison. Mr. Meier is pursuing a doctorate in mechanical engineering at the California Institute of Technology.
