Chicks bow out with win over Cap Hill

CHICKASHA —

A clearly relaxed and confident Lady Chicks volleyball team ended the season Tuesday night with a three-game win over Capitol Hill.

Seniors Rory Troub and Kaydee King were honored in the final home game of the season, but the team left them with a parting gift in a 25-12, 25-12, 25-11 rout of the Redskins. It was smiles all around from the outset, as the Lady Chicks were sure of their abilities to come out on top even after such a difficult season.

"They knew they were going to beat Capitol Hill; we talked about it last night," head coach Nancy Waters said. "It's about what they believe."

Chloe Reyes led the way for Chickasha, finishing the game with seven kills and seven aces. A strong attacking front that included Tania Davis and Devyn Crosley, who each recorded four kills, was backed by King and Alei Gann. The setters provided plenty of opportunities for the Lady Chicks to score, with King ending her volleyball days with six assists and Gann leading the way with 11.

When they did have to defend, Troub was once again there to provide six digs. But with a total of 25 kills, Waters said she was very pleased with how the offense consistently performed.

"One of the things we talked about is to go out and really swing, hit the ball hard," Waters said. "They did that tonight. When you go out and play relaxed and with confidence, good things happen."

It was a delightful end to an otherwise trying season in which the Lady Chicks too often ended up on the wrong end of the scoreboard. Still, Waters said she watched the team improve and has repeatedly said they have the skills to compete, just not always the confidence. Another good note was the performance of the junior varsity team and the future they are beginning to paint for Chickasha volleyball

"I'm excited about that group," Waters said. "They're only going to get better and better. We have things to work on; they need to get some more strength in their legs. But, they're going to be a pretty salty team for a few years."
