BLOG: Staples policy of silence bad for business

CHICKASHA — Staples announced they're closing 225 stores this week, but no one seems to have any idea what the Chickasha's location fate will be.

Actually, let me rephrase. No one wants to discuss it.

Staples, like many corporations, maintains the asinine policy, "we don't discuss information on specific locations."

I get it. Don't want to give away too much, or start a panic with employees, but this is bad business. The people and businesses that depend on Staples need to know whether their main squeeze for stationary will remain open or go the way of the Dodo. The concern for loyal customers and their fragile time frames seems to be non-existent.

In truth, The Express-Star does frequent Staples for supplies, so I do have a personal interest in the future of our little box store.

That being said, I can't stress enough the importance of quickly releasing information on what stores will close. This company prides itself on customer service. It is not serving their customers.
