Reimers takes reins as new Lady Chicks coach

CHICKASHA —

Veteran coach Kirk Reimers will take up the task of guiding an upward-trending Chickasha girls basketball program as the team's new head coach.

Reimers was confirmed by the Chickasha School Board in their Monday night meeting as the man to replace outgoing head coach Christy Edelen. He comes to Chickasha already with local experience, coaching at both Amber-Pocassett and Bridge Creek in the last few years.

Those stints are part of a 25-year coaching career for Reimers. Paden, Taloga, Fletcher, Binger-Oney, Snyder and Moss are also part of that list. He's amassed a record of 442-267 in basketball, coaching both boys and girls teams.

Athletic Director Yohance Brown said experience is important for the girls program, on the rise after a first state tournament appearance in 19 years last March.

"Anytime in a head coach search, that's numero uno, is successful experience," Brown said. "Then we go from there, determine if they're a good fit for the team."
