Chickasha man in critical condition after being tased by CPD officer

CHICKASHA — A  Chickasha man is in critical condition today after being tased by a police officer following a car and foot chase.

“There is nothing that would suggest any inappropriate action by our officers. However, investigation into these type of incidents is standard procedure," said Major Elip Moore of the Chickasha Police Department.

Kevin Branom (35) refused to stop for officers after allegedly committing a traffic infraction late on March 23, according to a CPD release.

Branom stopped the vehicle after a short pursuit and fled on foot when officers caught up with him.

The report states Branom resisted the efforts of the officers to take him into a custody, which resulted in the tassering.

"A short time after being handcuffed, Branom became non-responsive," the report reads.

Officers began life saving measures and contacted emergency management services, which transported Branom to Grady Memorial Hospital according to the report.

Chickasha Police Chief Eddie Adamson said Branom tested positive for methamphetamines, which he said has more to do with his medical issues than the tassering.

"We don't really know if it had anything to do with the tasing," he said.

Branom was later transferred to Baptist Medical Center where is he listed in critical, but stable condition.

Officer Harper-Head has been placed on routine administrative leave with pay according to Moore, while the department conducts an internal investigation.

"We just want to make sure we have fresh eyes on everything, said Adamson. "We don't feel anything improper happened."

Adamson said he hopes to have the investigation completed by Wednesday.

Branom was arrested on March 11 of this year for possession of a controlled substance.
