AMBER —

Amber-Pocasset took a huge jump toward the regional round in baseball with some big wins late Thursday night.

The Panthers first put county rivals Alex out of the playoff picture altogether in an 13-1 win. The loss was Alex's second of the afternoon after they suffered in a shootout 22-11 result against Maysville.

Triston Herron and Ethan James both came away with three hits each, and Levi Scott registered four RBI during Am-Po's win over Alex. Herron also had 2 RBI, while Ben Parr brought three runs in. Kevin Voyles went five innings on the mound, striking out three.

Ryland Ketchum led the way offensively for Alex with two hits. The Longhorns' only run came in the third inning, but Am-Po had by then registered nine of their own in the bottom of the first.

Herron followed up his performance at the plate with three hits in the Panthers' second win of the evening, an 8-0 victory over Maysville. Parr went all seven innings on the mound, striking out 13 batters to get the shutout win.

Am-Po faced Maysville again at 4:30 p.m. on Friday to advance in district.
