Merritt steps down as Chickasha boys coach

Merritt said he considers the state tournament run with the Fightin' Chicks last spring one of the standout moments in his career so far.

"Everyone in the town was so supportive when we reached the semifinals," Merritt said. "It was the best time of my life. I'd have paid any price for those few weeks. And of course, I wouldn't be getting this job without the great players I had."

Merrit has already begun working with Norman North players as the school with an enrollment of more than 2,000 students prepares for the fall.

"We're hitting the ground running," Merritt said.
