Chase suspect throws metal chunk at cops

CHICKASHA —

Dusty Knight was arrested on Friday night after deputies from the Grady County Sheriff Department, Oklahoma Highway Patrol and the Ninnekah Police Department attempted to pull him over.

Knight eluded officers after they attempted to pull him over for failure to pay child support, contempt and driving under suspension, Grady County Sheriff Jim Weir said.

During the chase, Knight threw a 15 pound, quarter inch thick piece of metal out the window. Two officer units managed to swerve around the chunk of metal which ricochetted down the road. The piece of metal caught up with the third unit and took out the transmission, Weir said.

Highway patrol put out stop sticks in an attempt to stop Knight's vehicle, but Knight kept driving. Eventually the tire wore down and sparks were flying, Weir said.

Knight's car then drove off the road. A Grady County deputy pulled up to Knight's car on the driver's side to prevent Knight from fleeing and then the deputy and a trooper rushed to the passenger's side.

Weir said although Knight kept yelling that he was sorry, he kicked and fought authorities, injuring the deputy and trooper. Knight was tased once and eventually apprehended.

Knight is being held on a $150,000 bond at the Grady County Jail. In addition to the previous charges, Knight was charged with felony attempting to elude and assault and battery on police officers.
