Incumbents retain seats

Steelman, Sutterfield win in landslides

CHICKASHA — Incumbents Phylis Steelman and Mike Sutterfield retained their seats after last night's Chickasha City Council election.

Both won by double digit figures.

"I feel really good about the results," Steelman said. "I feel really strong support and I appreciate the support the community has shown me."

Steelman defeated new comer Michael Chambon and Sutterfield beat TEA Party backed Dewy Mosshart to win his second term.

Mosshart ran against Vice Mayor J.E. Epperson last year.

"I am glad the campaign is over," Sutterfield said. I look forward to serving two more years and making sure things move forward in Chickasha."

Chambon said he's not sure whether he'll run again, but was impressed with the support he received from the community. He thanked those who voted for him and congratulated Steelman on her victory.

Both Steelman and Sutterfield are already thinking about what they'd like to see done during their next term.

"I've got two years ahead of me and Chickasha seems to be in a growing mode," Steelman said. "I see a lot of economic development and a lot of positive steps that can take our town forward."

Sutterfield echoed Steelman's comments on growth and added that he is excited to continue his work on the city's infrastructure.

"I plan on moving us along on our work with the water, sewer and streets," he said. "I also hope to see some new businesses come into town and I want to help us grow. That's what's on my slate right now."

Dewy Mosshart was unable to be reached before press time.
