A Chickasha man was arrested Wednesday for allegedly stealing about $10 worth of merchandise from a convenience store and urinating on the side of the building.

Chickasha Police Sgt. Jeremy Alexander said he was called to the Gas Mart on 4th Street about a report of a man shoplifting and exposing himself to the store's clerk.

Alexander said he found Alan Barton walking away from the store and he fit the description from the clerk.

"He told me that he would go back and pay for the items he took; then showed me cash and coins in his hand," he said.

Alexander spoke with the clerk after talking to Barton. The clerk told him Barton had put items in his pants from the candy aisle and proceeded to leave the store without attempting to pay for them, according to an incident report.

"I located six items that were stolen from Gas Mart on Barton's person, including sunflower seeds, candy bars and fingernail clippers," he said.

Barton walked to the north side of the building, where the drive-thru window is located, and exposed himself to urinate on the side of the building, according to the report.

Barton was arrested for shoplifting and indecent exposure and taken to the Grady County Jail.
