Yesterday Keepin' It Sweet bakery teamed up the local cancer awareness fund raising group the 2nd Base Savers, to raise funds for its upcoming Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure walk.
The three day walk starts in Dallas on Nov. 2. Each day, teams walk 20 miles. The closing ceremony is held on Sunday afternoon.
Cody Alexander is an employee at Keepin' It Sweet, and is familiar with the 2nd Base Savers and their mission.
"My wife, Erica is on the team," Alexander said. "A percentage of what we make today goes toward the team, and the individuals on the team who haven't reached their $2,300 goal."
According to Alexander, this is the team's third year to participate.
"Every year the teams starts fundraising in January," Alexander said. "There is typically one fundraiser a month. Every year the big three day event is in November, and they spend the year raising money to participate."
Keepin' It Sweet also sells bracelets with the team name on it for $2. If you were unable to participate in yesterday's fundraiser you can still help. You can write a check to an individual on the team and in the memo line write Susan G. Komen 3 Day, or you can write a check directly to the 2nd Base Savers and it will be distributed to individuals who haven't met their goal yet. You can also go online to www.the3day.org and click on the donate button and search for the 2nd Base Savers. All donations are tax deductible.
This year's 2nd Base Savers team include, Ashley Rayburn, Kristi Keller, Mary Ann McLemore (survivor), Leslie Ledford, Diane Mills, Megan Bingham, Jennifer Troub, Erica Alexander, Cheryl Elder, Cathy Groseclose, Brandy Edwards, Vicky Hudson, Haley Cordova, Amanda Cohen, Stacie Meadows, Cassandra Cox, Jessica Ryans, and Jennifer Kennell.
