Chicks, Rush Springs seek final playoff spots


As the final day of the high school football season approaches, there are still a few area teams fighting for the right amount of wins to book a postseason spot.

Top ranked Blanchard and local rivals Tuttle enter their final-day encounter with the knowledge that playoffs will be in their immediate future. Minco and undefeated Alex will also take part in the postseason as the leaders in their respective districts. But Chickasha (2-4 in district) and Rush Springs (3-3) will be looking for wins they desperately need to have a shot.

5A District 1: Duncan at Chickasha

Chickasha win: Fightin' Chicks get the last playoff spot in the district if their win is by six points or more. They will play Guthrie in the first round.

Chickasha loss or win by less than six: Duncan goes fourth

3A District 1: Tuttle at Blanchard, Jones at Bridge Creek

Tuttle win, Jones loss: Tuttle goes top of the district and plays Chandler in first round. Blanchard and Jones have opponents TBD

Tuttle win, Jones win: Tuttle goes top with a win by eight points or more, will be second if win is by seven points or less and Blanchard would be third. Jones plays Chandler in first round.

Tuttle loss, Jones loss: Blanchard goes top and plays Chandler in first round.

Tuttle loss, Jones win: Blanchard goes top, Tuttle goes third.

A District 3: Pioneer at Minco, Carnegie at Watonga

Minco go through top of the district and will play fourth placed team from A District 4

Carnegie and Watonga will decide who gets final spot.

A District 4: Rush Springs at Wilson, Velma-Alma at Healdton

Rush Springs win: Redskins go third if they win and, in doing so, make up a 16 point difference between them and Velma-Alma. If they do not, Rush Springs will go fourth and play Wynnewood in the first round of the playoffs.

Rush Springs loss: They will have to Walters loses or that they do not beat Ringling by nine points or more. In either scenario, Rush Springs would go fourth.

B District 2: Fox at Alex

Alex win or loss: Regardless, the Longhorns are through to the playoffs as the top seed. They'll play either Merritt, Ringwood or Garber depending on results in B District 1.
