A program approved by Chickasha Public Schools will help furnish students in need with personal supplies such as tissues, hand wipes, soap, shampoo and deodorant, Susan Parr, Chickasha Public Schools Administrative Assistant, said.

"There are so many kids in need," Parr said.

Champions for Kids Simple Giving Program will provide the Chickasha Walmart with a purple in-store donation bin to collect supplies for children in the community. After shoppers purchase items at the register, they can drop the items off within the store.

There is no particular brand that needs to be purchased, generics are fine, Parr said.

The donation bin will be inside the Chickasha Walmart starting Oct. 30 and donations will be collected until Nov. 11.

The supplies that are collected will be distributed among the schools within the Chickasha Public Schools district by each school's counselor.

According to Champions for Kids, the endeavor has been successful. In the first year of the program, 24 Walmart stores collected over 20,000 children with new toothbrushes and toothpaste. This year, the program will take place in 113 stores.
