Local FFA Member Receives WLC Scholarship

— Jake Grossnicklaus of the Chickasha FFA chapter is among the 50 Oklahoma FFA members statewide to receive a scholarship to attend the 2013 Washington Leadership Conference program in our nation’s capitol June 2 - 10, 2013.

These FFA members will be recognized during the 87th State FFA Convention held at the Cox Convention Center in Oklahoma City, April 30 at 10:30 a.m.

The sponsors of the WLC scholarships are The Craig Foundation (6), T & D Meats (1), C.M. Trailers (1), Trusted Choice Independent Insurance Agents (2), Oklahoma LP Gas Research, Marketing and Safety Commission honoring F.B. and Dessie Luke (2), the Dupy Family Trust (1), Alfred and Anita Green/Larry and Helen Harvey (1), Martindale Feed Mill (1), Mike Stephens Memorial (1), Farm Credit of Enid (1), American Farmers & Ranchers (1), Troy and Jennifer Walker (1), Chesapeake Energy Corporation (7), Oklahoma Center for Non Profits and Chesapeake Energy (1), SandRidge Energy (1), Pioneer Cellular (1), Blue & Gold Sausage Company (1), Nathan and Patricia Reese (1), Bart and Karalyn Fischer (1) and the Oklahoma FFA Alumni Association (18).

Over 2,300 FFA members from around the nation will experience the unique and rewarding opportunity to attend the Washington Leadership Conference in Washington, D.C.

Students are challenged to take their leadership skills to the highest level by learning how to solve local problems, build relationships, develop their character and truly live to serve others.

FFA members will tour our nation’s capitol, visit with members of Congress and perform a service learning project within the Washington, D.C. area, while building friendships with fellow FFA members from across the nation.

The Oklahoma FFA Alumni Association sponsors three charter buses to the conference each summer for the scholarship recipients and approximately 100 other FFA members who pay their own way or find local sponsorships to attend.

FFA is an integral part of the Agricultural Education Division in Oklahoma’s CareerTech system. With more than 24,000 members, the Oklahoma FFA Association is the fifth - largest state FFA association.
