Chickasha man dies while helping motorist

CHICKASHA — A man died overnight Saturday while trying to assist a motorist on the slick roads of H. E. Bailey Turnpike near Chickasha.

Oklahoma Highway Patrol reports that Rodney James Carrol, 61, of Chickasha, had stopped to assist a driver whose car had skid on the ice and hit a roadside barrier. A bus from Riverside Indian School was driving through and was unable to avoid the accident scene, killing Carrol.

Carol was the pastor of Ninnekah Church of Christ. He had also worked with Chickasha Public Schools and for Southwest Youth and Family Services.
