Rush Springs city clerk admits to taking city's money

RUSH SPRINGS — Rush Springs City Clerk John David Morrow admitted to embezzling $12,461.02 from the city since 2007, according to an arrest affidavit.

"Morrow admitted the reason he took the money was for living expenses and other expenses related to his family, including paying for a home and raising his children," Grady County District Attorney investigator Michael Francis wrote in an arrest report.

The money was discovered missing following an audit of Rush Springs by Rehba Henderson of Rahhal, Henderson and Johnson. Her report states Morrow repeatedly did not pay his insurance premiums and in 2008 Morrow paid himself for an extra elected position.

Morrow was elected to the position of city clerk in 2005.

Rush Springs Police Chief Paul Markham said each elections results in a 4-year term. At this time, Markham said the Rush Springs Board of Trustees is preparing to meet on the situation, but had not further comment.

"Morrow admitted he was in full control of the payroll, tax deductions, insurance premium payments and all finical related information for all city employees, including himself since 2005," Francis said. "Morrow admitted taking money that was not due to him from the city while operating within his capacity."

Morrow is charged with felony embezzlement and will have his preliminary hearing April 9, at 1:30 p.m.

Morrow was arrested in August on 2013 on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.
