Man arrested for stealing says he needed food, diapers for his child

A man was arrested after he allegedly tried to steal $75.01 of merchandise from Walmart to feed his child Sunday afternoon.

Chickasha Police Officer Steven Lanier said he located suspect Chason Grigg running north bound on S. 1st Street from the Walmart parking lot.

After a short chase, Lanier said he was able to cut Grigg off at 2nd Street and Alabama Avenue.

"I made contact with Grigg, and asked him why he was running," said Lanier. "Grigg stated, 'I needed food for my baby and don't have any money, so I stole some food.'"

Lanier arrested Grigg and took him back to Walmart where employee Chris Thompson positively identified Grigg as the suspect in question.

"Thompson said Grigg had placed several food items and a small package of diapers into a shopping cart, passed all points of sale with no attempt to pay for the items and walked out of the front door of the store with the merchandise," said Lanier.

Thompson said he wanted to file charges and a trespass notice against Grigg.

Grigg was booked into the Grady County Jail on shoplifting charges and banned from the Chickasha Walmart.
