4th Street construction slated for May

CHICKASHA — Drivers in Chickasha will experience some difficulties around the Grand Avenue and 4th Street intersection starting May 6.

The city recently awarded a bid to Rudy Construction for the widening and modification of Grand Avenue from 1st Street to 4th Street.

"The construction will include the addition of a second west bound lane as well as the installation of a center divider to prevent traffic from turning across opposing traffic to enter commercial driveways in this block," Support Services Director Steve Chapman said in a release.

Congestion from drivers attempting to turn into McDonald's parking lot from the eastbound lanes on 4th Street led to the need for the change Chapman said.

A medium and turning lane will be used to combat this issue and the addition of a westbound lane on 1st Street should combat any overflow, said Chapman.

It will take approximately 45 days to complete the construction according to Chapman, during which time a detour to Chisholm Drive will be in place.

Should drivers have questions or need additional information, they can contact Chickasha Support Services at 222-6000.
