Southmoore takes first at USAO scholastic meet

— Southmoore High School took first place at the annual scholastic meet at the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma Thursday.

The annual scholastic meet has been part of the university's Spring Triad of events for 34 years pits two students from high schools across the state against each other on tests on subjects ranging from accounting, economics and math to literature, languages and science.

Plainview High School and Pauls Valley High School took second and third place, respectively.

Plainview has been in the top three schools for two consecutive years. Plainview placed third last year.

Navajo Public Schools has also taken the Honorable Mention category for best small school for two years in a row.

USAO Media Writer Rob Vollmar said the top three schools are determined by the points that the top five students in each subject receive.

Vollmar said between 750 and 1,000 students compete in the meet each year.

"It shows how [students] compare to other students across the state," he said.
