Shoemake warns of deed scam

GRADY COUNTY —

A company from South Dakota is allegedly overcharging citizens about  property deed processing costs.

Grady County Clerk Sharon Shoemake said she has received information from two county citizens with deeds costing over $80.

"They can obtain copies of their deeds from us for a dollar," she said.

Last year a similar company out of Washington D.C. was taking advantage of citizens Shoemake said.

"People just need to know they don't have to pay an outrageous price for their deed," Shoemake said.

The clerk's office can certify deeds for an additional $1 as well, which makes them as good as the original, according to Shoemake.
