Lions take 3A state title

STILLWATER — It seemed to take forever. With less than a minute on the clock in the 3A state championship game, and the Blanchard High School football team with the ball and the lead, the Lions kept getting delayed from the final whistle.

A delay of game penalty on the offense. A personal foul penalty on the defense. But the down time between those snaps just served as a preliminary starter for the celebration Blanchard High School fans have been waiting for since 1979, the last time the Lions won the state championship.

The Blanchard Lions football team completed its transformation from a 5-5 team that missed the playoffs to the 2012 state champions with a 28-21 win over previously-undefeated Kingfisher at Boone Pickens Stadium on Friday night.
