Drovers lose to Belhaven in national tournament

— The USAO men’s soccer team was dealt its first loss of the season in the second round of the NAIA National Championship tournament Tuesday afternoon against Belhaven in Montgomery, Ala.

The Drovers lost 2-1 to the Blazers, and finish the season with a record of 14-1-4. Belhaven advances to the next round, and currently has a record of 16-4-1.

It was an upset loss for the Drovers, who were the No. 5 seed in the tournament, losing to the No. 12-seed Blazers.

Belhaven scored the first goal of the game less than 10 minutes in, with David Major earning the goal on a header, assisted by Loic Miliani.

USAO tied it up when Stephen Owusu scored with about 25 minutes left in the half.  The game was tied at halftime.

The Drovers seemed to be in control for much of the early part of the second half, controlling the pace and spending a lot of time in the attacking third of the field.

However, as the half progressed, the tide turned in Belhaven’s favor. The Blazers took the lead with a go-ahead goal by Giovanni Correa, and held that lead through the rest of the game.
