Lady Chicks end tourney with 13-run demolition job

CHICKASHA —

In two full days of softball, the Lady Chicks ended their weekend hosting some of the areas top select teams with a 13-run explosion that took their tournament record to 4-1.

The Lady Chicks split their Saturday games, but won both Sunday morning and afternoon match-ups by a score of 3-2 before finishing in style with a 13-4 battering of Oklahoma Athletics Sunday night. Kelsi Gore finished the late game with two home runs and a two-RBI double to lead the way for her team on offense.

"It was a good feeling," Gore said. "You feel good when you hit one home run, but two is something else."

Dennis Furr, Lady Chicks head coach, wasn't sure what to expect going into the late Sunday game after his team struggled at the plate in the two earlier games, but was pleased with the way his team performed to get all three wins.

"I know we can hit," Furr said. "In the first two games, we didn't have the offense, but we were able to get our pitching and base running going. We won those because we were fast. That's an incredible weapon."

The tournament put on by Chickasha softball was meant for all the teams to get practice games in, Furr said.
