Chickasha's Troub to play volleyball for St. Greg's

Chickasha senior Rory Troub signed a letter of intent to play volleyball for St. Gregory's University in Shawnee on Wednesday.

Troub spent last season as the Lady Chicks' libero and set the program single-season digs record with 281. Achieving that personal goal went a long way toward her decision to take those same skills into the university level.

"I've always wanted to beat the record since I saw it in seventh grade," Troub said. "That was a my goal from then on. I wanted to be a libero and beat that record. To have that dream come true was definitely a big step up and let me know that I can do this."

She signed her letter with head coach Nancy Waters, her family, and teammates by her side in the Chickasha High School library. Troub said she was impressed by four-year St. Gregory's when she paid the school a visit and met with Hayley Summers, who was named Cavaliers head coach following the end of the 2013 season in November.

"I talked to coach Summers," Troub said. "She seemed nice, a lot like coach Waters, so it'll be an easy adjustment. I liked that it was small. The student-teacher ratio is smaller."

Among the first in a new coaches recruitment class, Troub has an opportunity to stake a claim for a significant role at St. Gregory's. She was part of a Lady Chicks team that often played well defensively last year.

"It had always been a goal, just for a way to pay for college, to go and play volleyball," she said. "It's definitely different being five-feet tall and getting a scholarship. I'm excited to do it. My position doesn't require height, so that's good."

Troub, one of two seniors on the Chickasha volleyball team, said she wants to become a dentist and plans to study biology before completing her degree at OU.
