Shanoan Springs brightened by colorful paintings

CHICKASHA —

Art Expressions brought color and beauty for the residents of Shanoan Springs to take in on Wednesday.

The group of female artists held their art show in the Shanoan Springs activity room.

The art show was open to the community to purchase paintings, but Iris D. Sparks-Smith of Art Expressions said the main purpose was to give the residents something to enjoy.

Renny Cochran, Activities Director of Shanoan Springs and her daughter in law, Jaimie Evans, also had artwork on display and for sale.

Cochran said that residents had said they wanted to go to an art museum.

"Since I can't take them to see art, I brought the art to them," Cochran said.

She contacted Art Expressions, who enthusiastically agreed to give the residents an art show. Art Expressions members are Sparks-Smith, Bobbie Thornton, Glenda Fanning, Luci Martinez, Joyce Hampton and Gloria Massey.

Art Expressions meet once a week at what used to be The Mushroom in Chickasha. However, the building the studio is housed in will soon be sold by the owner. The group is looking for a new place to meet.

Sparks-Smith welcomes correspondence in regards to finding a new place at her P.O. box: Iris D. Sparks-Smith, P.O. Box 1474, Chickasha, OK, 73023.

Art Expressions will have another art show at 1 p.m. on April 2 at Grace Living Center in Chickasha.
