Lady Redskins beat Minco behind second half surge

RUSH SPRINGS —

A solid second half performance took Rush Sprigs to a 57-45 victory over county rivals Minco on Friday.

The Lady Redskins had three players in double-digits, but Samantha Dennis took it all down. Dennis was a consistent threat all night to lead the floor with 22 points, and 13 of those came in the first half alone. Not even a fourth foul late in the third quarter could stop Dennis from putting up some of her highest numbers this season.

It was a solid first half for freshman Lexi Large. She finished with 10 points on the night, most of those coming in the opening two quarters.

An even first half that made the score 27-22 at the break gave way to a Lady Redskins dominated second. Freshman Jordan Brooks had a quiet first two quarters, but announced her presence in the third with nine points to extend the Rush Springs lead. Minco kept pace with Corey Phelps on form, sinking two jumpers. The deficit was still extended to 10 in favor of Rush Springs.

A big reason for such a close first half was Kaytlin Rowell. That’s when she scored most of her team leading 17 points for Minco before quieting down in the second. Cheyenne Terry made a steady 16 points for the Lady Bulldogs.

Brooks continued her solid second half, immediately sinking a long-range jumper that helped her to 14 points for the night. By then Minco was essentially out of sight, and had to foul late on to stop the clock.
