Neither team ever led by more than six points during Tuesday night's game between the Chickasha High School girls basketball team and El Reno.
Thanks to a game-winning layup by Kieley Clift, Chickasha pulled out a 48-46 win in El Reno.
"We finally got one of those close wins out of the way, and I hope it's contagious," head coach Christy Edelen said.
The Lady Chicks are now 7-9 this season, playing their first game in a week and a half.
Edelen said her team was fighting cobwebs early in the game, resulting in some turnovers and mistakes.
Chickasha was down six points late in the third quarter, but went on an 8-0 run and ended the quarter only down by one point.
The Lady Chicks led 46-45 with 42 seconds left in the game. El Reno's Sheridan Gray was fouled by Sierra Hamilton and made one free throw to tie the game.
Chickasha called a timeout, and inbounded the ball from half court. Kieley Clift drove to the basket and hit a shot while being fouled with 8.8 seconds left. She missed the free throw, but Gray missed El Reno's final attempt. Gray had 21 points in the game.
Dominique Golightly scored 13 points to lead Chickasha in the game, and she had a double-double with 10 rebounds.
Hamilton also had a double-double, scoring 10 points and grabbing 15 boards.
Clift finished with 12 points.
Chickasha's next game is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Friday at home against Guthrie. The boys game will follow, and it will also be homecoming night.
