Eighth grade Chicks double up Monday

— The Chickasha High School freshman boys basketball team beat Elgin at home Monday night.

The Fightin' Chicks won the game 46-17. Chris Nottingham was the leading scorer with 17 points. Chris Wilson and Colton Christian scored nine points each.

The freshman girls team also beat Elgin, winning over the Lady Owls 28-27.

Hanna Fergason was the leading scorer with 10 points. Taylor Lessig scored seven, Kelsi Gore scored six, Alei Gann scored five, and Amanda Bradford had one point.

The freshman girls will host Guthrie at 7 p.m. Thursday at Myers Field House at Chickasha Middle School, and the boys will play at Guthrie at 7 p.m.

The Chickasha Middle School eighth grade boys basketball team played two games Monday, winning both of them.

The Chicks beat Lexington's junior varsity team 43-13 in the first round of the Lexington tournament. Kevonte Allen scored 12 points, and Tyler Miller scored 11.

In the evening, the Chicks hosted Elgin and won the game 30-24. Miller was the leading scorer with 13 points. Logan Woodard recorded eight blocks.

"The game got very chippy with technicals and intentional fouls, but we managed to keep our composure," head coach Dace Lemieux said. "Shawn Reed played key minutes and scored two points when Clayton Mosely left the game with an ankle injury."

The boys will play at 5 p.m. in the second round of the Lexington Tournament on Wednesday.

The eighth grade Lady Chicks also had two games Monday, beating Lexington JV 29-4 in the first game.

Addisyn Chambers and Meredith Noland scored six points each to lead the team. Dayanna Daniels scored four.

Jac Gray, Savannah Gallegos, Jaycie Brown, Ereka Tallent, Ava Hauser and Toria Ellis scored two points each, and Lekynn Parish scored one.

In the evening game, the Lady Chicks lost 36-26 to Elgin. Noland scored 11 points, Chambers scored three, and Brown had two.

The Chickasha Middle School seventh grade boys basketball team lost a close game to Elgin on Monday evening at home.

The Owls beat the Fightin' Chicks 24-23. David Thibodeaux led Chickasha with eight points. Carlos Pando scored seven, Isaac Cantu scored four, and Larry Abram and Grady McKnight scored two points each.

"Great game last night for the guys, even though the score was not in our favor," head coach Larry Coley said. "They played really well and hustled all night long.

"They played like we have been practicing for once, and some good things happened for them as well."

The boys will play at Guthrie at 5 p.m. Thursday.

The Lady Chicks lost to Elgin on Monday 26-16. Erin Powell led the team with eight points.

Tamia Murry scored three points, Tina Bradford and Jadyn Filer scored two points each, and Brittany Alexander scored one point.

"We led after the first quarter and at halftime by two," head coach Nancy Waters said. "In the second half, they started a half-court trap that really gave us trouble. We played a great first half with just a few turnovers."

The girls will host Guthrie at 5 p.m. Thursday.
