Chickasha basketball teams win in first round

CHICKASHA — The Chickasha High School boys and girls basketball teams both won in the first round of the Chickasha Basketball Classic on Thursday night at the Chickasha High School Activity Center.

The Lady Chicks beat the Duncan Lady Demons 62-43, beating Duncan with first quarter defensive pressure that forced the Lady Demons into turnovers on their first seven possessions.

Kieley Clift and Sierra Hamilton led Chickasha with 15 points each. Hamilton had 17 rebounds, 10 on offense.

Dominique Golightly scored 12 points, and Taylor Sylvester scored 10 points, all in the fourth quarter. Maddy Irving scored seven points.

The Chickasha girls will play Lawton MacArthur at 7 p.m. Friday in the second round.

The Chickasha boys beat Altus 60-56, giving up a big lead but holding on for the first-round victory.

E.J. Golightly got the Chicks started off right with 15 first-quarter points, and he finished with 27. Datious Dufur scored 11 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for the double-double.

Joey Sylvester had 13 points, and Dakota Goombi scored eight.

The Fightin’ Chicks will have a tough challenge Friday night, playing Redemption Christian Academy, a team from Texas which beat the Oklahoma City Storm handedly in the first round. The game is scheduled for 8:30 p.m.
