Arrested woman said she was trying to provide for children

CHICKASHA —

A woman who was arrested for allegedly placing Walmart jewelry in her purse in an attempt to steal it Nov. 30, said she was trying to provide for her children. 

Chickasha Police Officer Derek Hunt said Walmart employee Christopher Thompson witnessed Amy Delk selecting various clothing and jewelry items from around the store and concealing them in her purse. 

"Chris told me Amy passed all points of sale with the merchandise concealed in her purse," said Hunt. 

The items were valued at $51. 

"Amy told me she had no money to pay for that merchandise," said Hunt. "Amy told me that her intent was to take the property to provide for her children." 

Delk was arrested for shoplifting.
