Redskins rout Alex in run-ruled game

Rush Springs eased into the Grady County tournament semifinals with a run-rule 10-0 win over Alex.

The top seed Redskins put six runs on the board in the bottom of the third and got their final run the next time around to advance. Starting pitcher Alex Knoff saw all 12 Longhorn batters retired in his four innings on the mound.

Alex’s pitching staff had a much more difficult time. It was evident from the opening inning that it would be a struggle when AJ Cox and Colt Beard reached base on errors. Brayden Moreno was hit by a pitch to load them up, and Tanner Foster opened the scoring with a two-RBI double to left.

Josh Borski’s sacrifice fly made it three, and it was only a sign of things to come. Foster opened the scoring in the third with another RBI-single, and Borski followed that up with a two-run shot of his own. Cox was then walked, bringing in another run and prompting a pitching change from Alex. Down 9-0, the damage had already been done.

A bright spot for the Longhorns was left fielder Sam Harris. A diving catch from Morrow’s shallow shot in the gap plus a much less stressful effort for the third out kept Rush Springs of the board in the second. Another impressive catch close to the left field line from Harris set up a fight from Alex in the fourth, but Morrow’s RBI-single ended the game prematurely later in the inning.
