USAO's Talley says no to retirement to begin work at First National Bank

CHICKASHA — After 27 years with the University of Science and Arts Oklahoma, Public Relations Director Randy Talley will be taking his skills to another long-lasting business in Chickasha.

On May 1, Talley will assume the role of Vice President of Marketing for First National Bank and Trust Company.

"First National Bank is the oldest business in our community," Talley said. "If I was going to make a transition from one great institution to another in our community, this is what makes sense."

Talley's decision to take a job with First National came while he was contemplating retirement.

"I had reached that age where I was toying the idea of retiring when they called and it just seemed perfect," he said.

Pat Brooks, president of First National Bank and Trust Company said Talley was pursued after current Vice President of Marketing for the bank Nancy Smith announced her plans to retire on May 15.

"We needed to find someone that has the exceptional skills we need to hit the ground running and Randy was on the top of our list," Brooks said. "It's amazing we found such an unusual talent right here in Chickasha. Our management team went out, recruited him, talked to him and now we are excited to have him on board."

Talley said the banks tightly woven connection to the people of Chickasha made the decision to change from education to banking a little easier.

"Both of these institutions were ingrained in the community from the very beginning and I really like that," he said.

Although Talley said he looks forward to starting his journey with First National, he will miss USAO deeply.

"We accomplished a lot while I was there," he said. "We've developed a brand state wide that has also seen some national exposure. I've gone to national conferences and people comment about me being from USAO. They know the school from outside of Oklahoma."

Talley said his team at USAO was a major reason he was able to accomplish so much, including landing the school on a list as a nationally ranked liberal arts university.

"I loved the folks I worked with," he said. "They are marvelous and saying goodbye was really difficult."

At First National, Talley will be responsible for aiding in retail business strategy, business development and marketing and electric banking evolution.

"With his technical and marketing skills we expect Randy to be a very important part of our team," Brooks said.

As for retirement, Talley said that's going to be put on the back burner as he doesn't think he has quite yet reached that age.

"I'm really too young to retire," he said. It was just providential that they would contact me for this job when they did. It was kismet."
