Man arrested for smoking pot in car while minor was in back seat

CHICKASHA —

A 33-year-old Chickasha man was arrested around 4 p.m. Thursday, in the 800 block of West Iowa and charged with several drug charges, traffic charges and child neglect.

As a Chickasha Police officer approached Joseph Antoine Dixon’s Tan GMC Yukon Sport Utility Vehicle, he smelled what he believed to be marijuana, and after inspecting the man’s vehicle he found several narcotics including eight Xanax pills, 18 Lortab painkillers, a large bag of marijuana and a two marijuana cigarettes, according to an incident report.

Dixon was transporting a 12-year-old female passenger, and the girl’s mother, Debra Petty. According to reports, Petty was not under the influence of Marijuana.

Petty and her daughter were both released.

The report stated the arresting officer found one of the marijuana cigarettes still burning underneath the driver’s seat and the GMC Yukon still had stagnant smoke floating throughout the vehicle.

The officer noticed Dixon not maintaining his lane of travel going southbound close to the 200 block of 9th Street.

Because of the quantity of drugs found in Dixon’s possession and the amount of money he had “balled up” in his pocket, he was transported to the Grady County Jail where he was booked in for Possession of CDS with the Intent to Distribute, Possession of CDS without a Valid Prescription, Child Neglect, Operating a Vehicle without a Driver’s License, Failure to Keep Right on a Road of Sufficient Width and Affixing an Improper Decal to a Vehicle, according to the report.

Grady County Assistant District Attorney Leah Edwards said depending on whether this was Dixon’s first offense would determine the amount of jail time he is facing.

She said if all of these charges were first offenses then he is looking at a variety of time for each charge.
