CVTC Ambassadors visit state capitol

— Canadian Valley Technology Center Student Ambassadors traveled to Oklahoma’s State Capitol Tuesday, April 2, to tour the building and meet with Grady County legislators. The group joined student leaders from CV Tech’s El Reno and Cowan campuses.

The students began their visit with a guided tour of the capitol by CV Tech Superintendent Dr. Greg Winters. Winters took the students to several areas throughout the building, including the Supreme Court Chambers and the Hall of Governors. The students were then able to sit in on a session in the House of Representatives chamber.

Following the tour, Chickasha campus students visited local legislators Rep. Joe Dorman, Rep. Leslie Osborn, Rep. David Perryman and Sen. Ron Justice. In addition, the students paid a visit to the OKC National Memorial museum.

“The students look forward to telling their elected officials about their concerns and their opinions on bills that are passing through the system,” Erica Miller, ambassador co-advisor, said. “While some may have visited the State Capitol before, they may not have had the opportunity to speak directly with their legislators.”

“The students who participate in this event represent tomorrow’s leaders, and could go on to become our elected officials one day,” Kelly Arnold, ambassador co-advisor, said. “They have been involved in leadership activities throughout the school year, in addition to preparing for their future endeavors.”

The Student Ambassador program is funded by Canadian Valley Technology Center’s Foundation. The CV Tech Foundation is a separate entity that was founded by Helen Ward of Chickasha in 1984 to enhance vocational education opportunities for Canadian Valley students. The Foundation is governed by a Board of Trustees, appointed from areas in our Canadian Valley district, and oversees all management and expenditures of Foundation fund.
