Roy's Barbecue has been a fixture in Chickasha for 41 years.
The small restaurant with the classic red-checkered tablecloths at one time served about 200 people a day. But as owner Roy Brant said, it still pays the bills.
Easy to see why, or rather, smell why. The smokey aroma of old fashioned barbecue draws customers in from the gravel parking lot on 309 W. Missouri Ave.
Roy opened the restaurant in 1971 with his wife Clara and two daughters. He added an addition to the restaurant in 1975.
Roy, now 85, opened the business when he was 45 because he said he was putting in enough hours as a cook that he thought he might as well work for himself. Roy said that business has varied over the years. About five people currently work for the restaurant.
Running a barbecue restaurant is a lot of work, but Roy said he enjoys it.
"You've got to, or otherwise you wouldn't do it. It'd be too hard."
