Morris leads Chicks past El Reno

After some long runs by Morris, the quarterback went to his arm to tie things up. Morris found Carey for a 19-yard touchdown pass that made the score 7-7 with 3:45 to go before halftime.

Morris was a big part of the touchdown that gave Chickasha the lead, but in an unusual role for a quarterback. On the El Reno punt, Morris was the return man, found a lane down the right, and the field opened up for him to go all the way to the house and put Chickasha up 14-7 heading into halftime.

An interception on Chickasha’s opening drive quickly gave the ball back to El Reno. After holding them steady for a few plays, Bailey Denny caught Baker’s pass after the play-action and went all of 53 yards to the end zone. With 7:30 left in the third quarter, the Indians had it all tied up at 14-14.

It was a defensive battle for the rest of the third, with Chickasha making some big stops against the Indians on a drive that took up the final five minutes of the quarter. To begin the fourth, Filer dropped Baker for a big loss on fourth down to set up the home team for a go-ahead score.

It didn’t take long. On the first play, Morris broke off a 55 yard touchdown run to give Chickasha a 21-14 lead with most of the fourth quarter still to be played. The run also took Morris to more than 100 yards on the ground for the night.

But as quickly as the lead came, it went away just the same. After holding Chickasha, Denny returned the punt for El Reno 50 yards for the equalizing touchdown. That made the score 21-21 with 7:50 to play.

Back came Chickasha with some great plays from Morris. A 35 yard pass to Kyle McNatt set the Fightin’ Chicks up in El Reno territory, followed by a 15-yard run from Morris. He capped it off with another 9-yard sprint, this time into the end zone to give Chickasha a late seven-point lead.
