Traffic stop leads to gun find

CHICKASHA —

A routine traffic stop led to the discovery of an illegal transportation of a loaded firearm on Aug. 31.

Chickasha Police Officer Joel Hendrix pulled a vehicle over upon noticing one of the tag lights was not working properly.

Hendrix said he made contact with the driver, identified as Ashley Winter, who said she and her three passengers were coming from a friend’s house. Hendrix wrote in a report the scene of alcohol was emanating from the car.

The passengers were identified as Jesse Still, Cass Marchant and Brooke Mosier. Hendrix ran a check on each suspect’s driver’s license. The search revealed Still had a felony warrant in Texas.

“I went to have Still step from the vehicle,” Hendrix wrote. “While having to tell him multiple times to get out, he finally did. While getting out he leaned down into the vehicle and stated, ‘Cass, do something.’ Still repeated that three times. During those statements, Mosier immediately put her hands on the back of the head rest.”

Hendrix proceeded to put all four subjects under investigative detention based on Still’s comments. While conducting an inventory on the vehicle, Hendrix wrote he found three bottles of open beer and a Beretta handgun.

All four suspects denied ownership of the gun, according to the report, but Mosier said the weapon belonged to Marchant. The report reads, the gun was accessible to all four suspects.

A probable cause affidavit for illegally transporting a loaded firearm was issued for all four suspects.
