Local country club owners donate funds

CHICKASHA — Fran and Jerry Morris of Cottonwood Creek have donated $5,000 to the Children of Our Community organization, which was started by Lauren Matthews.

"Fran and Jerry have been huge supporters," Matthews said.

Matthews said that an especially heinous child abuse case last year inspired her to do something for the children of Chickasha.

Last year, with the help of John Holt, Matthews said Children of Our Community raised about $8,500. They also partnered with Bible Baptist. Matthews said the organization was able to give bikes to a family at the Resurrection House.

Matthews said they hope to do even more this year. Local schools and churches have sent lists of families in need. Toys, food and diapers have been donated in the past. Sometimes families have just requested medication, Mathews said, but she included Christmas cookies so that the gift had a little more Christmas cheer.

T-shirts which support Children of Our Community are being made. All proceeds go back to the organization. To order one, call Matthews at 405.933.4578. Donations can be made to FOP Lodge 129.

A poker run that will benefit Children of Our Community will take place starting at 9 a.m., Nov. 17 at the Shell station on Highway 19.
