Carey Cabo Wilkerson, Lavern Ragain and Bill Merrell of the American Legion presented framed recognitions for the veterans. Wilkerson shook the hand of each veteran and saluted them. Some veterans wore their caps and some family members came for the festivities. A very patriotic cake with an American flag and "God bless our veterans" written across in icing was served with punch.

Julie York sang the national anthem, a cappella,  for the residents. Activities Director, Renny Cochran, told the residents about when here son was missing in action for weeks. Cochran said she was distraught, and still remembers when she got a phone call at 2 a.m. from her son, who told her he would be coming home.

This is the third year in a row that the VFW has come to Glenhaven.

"What better thing can we do than honor the vets especially the ones in here," Ragain said.

Ragain also took time to acknowledge the veterans who died.

"All you vets will agree that the real heroes are the ones who didn't make it."
