Thunder at 4 p.m.: Thundering up on New Year's Eve now a tradition

OKLAHOMA CITY — The Thunder have grown accustomed to playing on New Year's Eve. Since arriving in Oklahoma City, the team has rung in the new year each season with a game. Even more impressive, they are 4-0 in those contests.

The Thunder will look to move to 5-0 tonight when it host the Phoenix Suns at Chesapeake Energy Arena. It's the second year in a row Oklahoma City has hosted the Suns on New Year's Eve. Last year the Thunder earned a 107-97 victory.

As part of it's New Year's celebration, the Thunder Cares Foundation auction will take place outside of Section 120 on the arena’s main concourse. The auction will feature autographed Thunder memorabilia, including a team-signed ball. Other autographed sports items will also be up for bids. The auction will begin when doors open at 5:30 p.m. and end at the completion of the third quarter. Fans with winning bids will have until 20 minutes after the game to claim their items. Thunder proceeds for the auction benefit the Thunder Cares Foundation, which supports the team’s community-outreach programs.
