The Blanchard High School football team continued to gain momentum with a shutout victory over Hilldale at home Friday in the 3A state quarterfinals.
The Lions beat the Hornets 42-0, and are now 11-1 this season. Hilldale ends its season with an 11-2 record.
The Blanchard defense didn’t allow a first down until the 9:41 mark in the third quarter.
“Just a great all-around effort on our kids’ part,” Blanchard head coach Jeff Craig said after the game. “The resolve these guys have is just tremendous, the last few weeks they’ve turned it up a notch.”
The Lions will face Jones in the state semifinals, a rematch between two district 3A-1 rivals. Blanchard won 28-25 win the two teams played at Jones High School on Oct. 12.
“They’ll be looking to redeem themselves a little bit,” Craig said. “We talked about it when we walked off the field, ‘we’ll probably see you guys in the playoffs’. They’ve got an excellent football team. We don’t expect anything but a great football game that night.”
Blanchard will play Jones at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1 at Putnam City High School in the semifinals.
