OKLAHOMA CITY —
After almost a week of delays, the Chickasha girls basketball team finally got their season off and running Wednesday with a 59-21 win over Douglass in the Millwood Tournament.
Senior Alex Stewart led the team with 14 points as the Lady Chicks get a winning start to their 2013-14 campaign. Head coach Christy Edelen said it was a good first win, and her squad will hope to make it two in a row when they play again today at 1 p.m.
The opening quarter against Douglass was the most productive offensively for Chickasha. Behind Stewart and sophomore Taylor Sylvester, who had 11 points in the morning game, the Lady Chicks took the game to Douglass and came out of the first quarter with a 19-9 lead.
It was a defensively sound outing as well for the ladies, who in the third quarter held Douglass to just one point on their way to the win. Junior Jacklyn Ramos added eight points to the effort, while highly rated sophomore Dominique Golightly put in four.
The Lady Chicks play their first home game on Tuesday, Dec. 17, against Elgin. The game will be a pink out event in support of breast cancer awareness.
