Fergason on state path after personal best

Perhaps it was the familiar surroundings that helped Hanna Fergason to a personal best on Tuesday.

Last weekend in Comanche, the sophomore had come within inches of 17-feet in the long jump and took gold. On her home Chickasha track, the sophomore leaped past that.

On her first attempt of the afternoon, Fergason's 17' 2.5" set a new personal best. She is now within touching distance of the top long jumper from Duncan, Skylar Standokes, whose 17' 2.75" jump also came at her home meet.

It was the highlight of a tough meet for Chickasha, who had a collection of top Class 6A competitors to deal with throughout the afternoon. Kori Smith, Ivy McPherson, Jaycie Brown and Tawn Neidy combined to finish fifth in the girls' 400 relay in a time of 52.37 seconds, while Smith, Brown, Neidy and Tania Davis were part of the 800 relay team that finished seventh in 1:51.34.

Lawton High took the team title from the Chickasha meet on the boys side, while Lawton Eisenhower took the girls title. Chickasha boys and girls finished 15th and 12th, respectively.

Chickasha now gets some time off before their next meet at Lindsay on April 26. Regionals are held on May 10.
