Chicks football motto asks for more

CHICKASHA —

Last season, head coach Tom Cobble asked his Fightin' Chicks for more force in a very original way.

This season, he's asking for even more in a similarly unique fashion. On the back of Chickasha Football shirts worn by players, coaches, and training staff, characters that few people in the state would be able to decipher on their own spell out "Force" in Japanese.

"It started last year, when coach wanted us to be more forceful with everything we do," Thomas Phillips, a Fightin' Chicks junior varsity player, said ahead of a scrimmage with Blanchard.

Cobble wants more "force" in everything the players do; from practice to lifting weights, to running and, of course, in games. This year, Cobble wants that plus even more, with a small number 2 next to the Japanese characters symbolizing a desire for even more force.

"he wanted us to have more force, more power in what we do," senior T.J. Flier said. "Now, he wants even more."

In Cobble's third year, there is more optimism surrounding the team as they head into the 2013 season. A big reason for that, Flier said, is down to the team motto and putting it to work.

"It made a difference last year," Flier said. "Now, we want even more of that."

After Friday night's scrimmage, Chickasha has one more practice game at Clinton on Thursday. Anadarko will be their first opponent in the regular season when they take the field away from home on Sept. 6.
